| HERO 1 2009: Hero 1 2009 served
in Operation Iraqi freedom as a Military Police Officer
and was seriously injured by an Improvised explosive device
(IED). Over the past year, our Hero has dedicated himself
to taking care of his medical conditions and reconnecting
with his family. He is a married father of three children.
He and his wife are expecting another baby in the very
near future as well!
While he has been recovering, through the generosity of
our donors and participants of the 2009 WHOH event, we
were able to provide essential assistance to our Hero
by paying his rent and alleviating some other expenses,
(credit card debt and student loans, etc.). Through our
efforts to provide him with some much needed financial
relief, our Hero has been energized and now is hoping
to enroll in college for the Fall, 2010 semester with
the goal to pursue a degree in Accounting.
Our Hero and his family are very humbled by the display
of the generosity of the WHOH organization as this has
helped our Hero’s readjustment to civilian life
much easier by relieving some of his financial burdens!
He has even visited the American River office on more
than one occasion and took great pride in introducing
himself to our staff.
HERO 2 2009: Hero 2 209 served in Operation Enduring
Freedom (Afghanistan) training Afghani police, and was
seriously injured as a result of a suicide bomber. Over
the past year, our Hero has dedicated himself to taking
care of his medical conditions and reconnecting with his
family. He is a married father of two.
As a result of the generosity of the WHOH organization,
our Hero and his wife were able to pay off their debt,
provide Christmas gifts for their children and even purchase
their own home. Our Hero prides himself on being a "home
owner," and being able to see his children play in
the yard.
The future looks bright for our Hero as well. As he continues
to heal from his wounds, he has been able to return to
work as a union carpenter and hopes to return to school
in the near future.
