UPDATE: Our initial Hero
from 2008 currently resides in Florida near where he attended
school. Since we met him, he has successfully completed
his internship with a fire department and completed Fire
College as well. The donations received from our 2008
Inaugural Welcoming Home our Heroes, (WHOH), event, provided
key living expense assistance, (telephone and car payments,
etc.), to our Hero during this time which allowed him
to concentrate his efforts towards successfully completing
his studies!
After our Hero graduated from Fire College, he decided
to change directions in his life. Last summer, he began
working at a local Air Station near his home where he
coordinates the repair and distribution of airplane parts.
Our Hero really enjoys this job as it gives him an opportunity
to work with many veterans, and he finds the work very
interesting. He will continue to give back with his volunteer
work at a local camp for pediatric burn victims and with
his work at a national veterans advocacy organization.
Our 2008 Hero will always be incredibly grateful to the
very generous people who participated in the Welcoming
Home our Heroes event as he could not have achieved his
goals without their support!
