Welcoming Home our Heroes Update – 2009 and 2010
2009 Re-Cap
On behalf of the Directors of the Welcoming Home our Heroes,
(WHOH), organization, I would like to re-cap our 2009 activities
and provide a preview of our goals for the 2010 event. As those
of you who participated in this year’s event, held on Monday,
September 21, 2009, we were blessed by the golfing gods with a
spectacular day as over 90 golfers converged on the beautiful
Olde Vine Golf Club in Riverhead, NY.
Along with the funds raised by our participants and by receiving
very generous donations from two Long Island based charitable
organizations, we were able to generate over $30,000 to provide
support for 2 wounded Heroes this year! This total is DOUBLE the
amount we raised in 2008 for our inaugural event!
We even received a nice little plug in a recent Newsday article
written by their Golf writer, Mark Herrmann. The article is listed
on the WHOH Web Site, www.welcominghomeourheroes.com. You may
click the “Articles” tab to view it!
Fellow WHOH Director, Joe Grignoli, and I met each of our 2009
Heroes prior to the golf outing. While both Heroes suffered Traumatic
Brain Injuries, (TBI), in Iraq, each young man served their country
with bravery and courage. As both Heroes are married with young
children, each is thankful for the support provided by WHOH as
they aspire to complete their rehabilitation, attend college and
return to serve their communities to lead normal and productive
lives.
2010 Update
In preparation for the 2010 event, we have already received a
generous donation from National Grid of $1,000 and $500 from its
former Chairman, Robert Catell, which have been added to our coffers.
While other donations are pending, we’re certainly off to
a rousing start for the 2010 event.
Please mark your calendars as the Third Annual Welcoming Home
our Heroes event will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at
Island Hills Golf Club, Sayville, NY. Please go to the WHOH Web
site to check out the course and obtain directions.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your dedication
to support our effort of assisting these very special people who
protect our way of life. We are especially humbled by your support
in 2009 and we hope to see you again in 2010!
